Australian Landcare International

What is Landcare?

Landcare is  a broad natural resource management (NRM) program that is community-based and community-owned. It has the potential to address the needs of individual communities in both developed and developing countries. It began in Australia in 1986 and is based on local community groups working together to improve the conservation values and productive resources of their area. The growth of Landcare in Australia was rapid with 5000 groups formed across the country within the first 15 years. While most groups are based in rural areas, some are urban based and concentrate on improving conservation values in public parks and reserves.

Australian Landcare International.

Australian Landcare International (ALI) is a not-for-profit organisation  started in 2008.   Its members   have been involved in Landcare in Australia at policy, program and operational levels for more than 20 years. Our goal is to build on our collective Landcare experience to help people in other countries  manage their land and water resources more sustainably.

We aim to achieve this goal by:

  • Promoting Landcare as a sustainable way to manage natural resources to improve the land’s productivity and its conservation.
  • Supporting the introduction of a Landcare approach within local communities.
  • Connecting existing Australian Landcare groups with new projects in other countries.

Australian Landcare International can draw upon a wide range of expertise through its specific database of members, and our relationships with various organisations, both corporate and government.

Using this network, we aim to assist communities to carry out a range of important local activities and projects.

ALI is currently seeking funding from various sources in both the corporate and government sectors to develop new projects.
